DeCordova Museum

I recently discovered that the deCordova Museum has kids' "play-dates" every other Wednesday during the school year.

We went to one a few weeks ago with some of our friends from our Friday play group. Hannah had an amazing time! Each play-date consists of a story time followed by viewing a specific exhibit and learning about it.  Then the kids get a chance to do some different arts and crafts and sensory play.

The play-date we went to was about the sculpture called "Four-Wheeler Rollover."  We heard stories about wheels and footprints and getting stuck in mud.  When we walked over to the sculpture, the kids really enjoyed touching the different materials and hearing about it how the artist made it.  But even more fun than that was counting the number of wheels that the vehicle has!

Then they got a chance to get their hands dirty with three different projects - painting using toy cars, playing with cloud dough, and using Crayola Model Magic with different objects (a comb, a bendy straw, sensory balls, etc.) to see the imprints that they made.

After the event, we had a lot of fun running around and seeing some of the sculptures with our friends.

Afterwards we had a picnic on the lawn.  Hannah loves having picnics so she was really happy.  She even made friends with a group of people who were eating near us!   I also tried feeding Ezra from a packet for the first time and made a giant mess.  Oops.

We'll definitely go again - it was a great day!
